Jamaica Government Ordered To Pay Vybz Kartel Appeal Case; ODPP Discussing Cash Sum Amount

Justice Minister Delroy Chuck says the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is aware that the Government has been ordered to pay all costs relating to the United Kingdom (UK) Privy Council appeal of Vybz Kartel and his co-appellants.

The order was not included in the judgment on March 14, when Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John had their murder convictions overturned.

The formal order relating to costs came down from the UK Privy Council two weeks ago.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, Minister Chuck explained that the move is not unusual.

He explained further that the amount to be paid must be agreed upon with the DPP’s office and will be taxed.

Meantime, one of Kartel’s attorneys, Alessandra LaBeach said the appellants, who were already aware of the order are satisfied that there will be some level of compensation.
