Jamaica Coach Halgrimsson Resigned

June 30, 2024. The Jamaica Football Federation has accepted the resignation of the head coach of the Senior Men’s National Team, Heimir Hallgrimsson.

The decision was communicated to the president and players by the coach earlier today. Mr Hallgrimsson came to Jamaica over two years ago and has worked assiduously to lift the standard of the national team.

The JFF and the wider Jamaica have seen much benefit as a result of Coach Halgrimsson’s tenure. The JFF would like to thank him for the work he has done, and we are pleased with the coach’s commitment to the team.

We wish him success in his future endeavors. The JFF’s Technical committee will now begin the search for his replacement as the Concacaf Nations League and the FIFA World Cup are imminent. Ends.

There will be new man in charge to guide Jamaica’s quest to secure a place at the 2026 Fifa World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada after Heimir Hallgrímsson tendered his resignation as coach of the senior men’s national team.

The resignation, which came after the Reggae Boyz crashed to a 3-0 defeat to Venezuela in the final game of the group stage at the Copa America, was confirmed by the Jamaica Football Federation which stated in a release it “Has accepted the resignation of the head coach of the Senior Men’s National Team, Heimir Hallgrímsson.”

According to the JFF the “decision was communicated to the president and players by the coach earlier today (Sunday).”

The release went on to state “Hallgrimsson came to Jamaica over two years ago and has worked assiduously to lift the standard of the national team.”

While also stating the Federation and the wider Jamaica had benefitted as a result of his tenure, the local governing body thanked the Iceland native “for the work he has done,” adding they were pleased with his “commitment to the team” and wished “him success in his future endeavors.”

The JFF’s Technical committee will now begin the search for his replacement as the Concacaf Nations League and the FIFA World Cup are imminent. 

Hallgrímsson had two years to run n his contract. It is not clear if his backroom staff, including assistant John Wall will follow in his footsteps.
