Marlon “Boom Boom” Wizard has arguably become one of the most-sought-after sound system operators/selectors within the dancehall industry.
He says majority of his success is simply karma for the good he has done to others.
“A how yuh deal wid people enuh. Me is a people person, enuh. Yuh see if mi did all fi miself, mi wouldn’t have no name; mi wouldn’t have no career suh long,” he told the media during an exclusive sitdown.
Adding that, apart from Jamaica, he is well received in England, Boom Boom said he never plans his sets ahead, because he has to get a feel of each crowd upon arrival.He also said he is not a fan of appearing on long line-ups with multiple artistes.”Mi haffi guh and freestyle enuh. Remember dis enuh — especially ah foreign — ah mi ah di headliner of di show enuh. Mi nuh do show wid artiste. Mi don’t like it and di main reason why mi nuh do show wid artiste is because mi nuh want di artiste dem feel like ah dem pull di crowd. Mi like do my show fi bring out my fans dem, because me is an entertainer…if di promoter have 200 people ah come support him, when him book me, him ah get a next 300. So, automatically mi sell,” the selector added.Outside of music, Boom Boom enjoys playing football and watching television.He gave some insight into how he manages his demanding schedule.”Ah two big show mi have inna Jamaica right now fi do summer ’cause normally mi deh overseas, but wid dem two big show yah mi haffi represent: Dancehall Night at Sumfest and Dream Weekend Igloo. Different from dat mi deh overseas. Mi have a Europe tour a come up end of August den mi fly back in pon Sundays fi Boom Sundays, Uptown Mondays, and Boasy Tuesdays, and pon ah Wednesday mi gah Weddy and leggo di streets and fly back out pon a Thursday,” Boom Boom said.
